The main purpose of the Department "Geodesy and Geoinformatics" is the training of engineers in "Applied Geodesy", bachelors and masters in "Geodesy and Remote Sensing" and “Cartography and Geoinformatics". The department is working in close cooperation with other departments of the University, having, at the same time, his research and teaching.
In light of modern requirements for the introduction of innovative technology laboratories of the department systematically equipped with hardware-software complexes, processing and presentation of spatial data, digital and electronic surveying instruments, devices, global navigation satellite systems. The department with experienced professionals is involved in the training and organization of work with leading companies and organizations. Part of practical and laboratory studies conducted at the branches based at cartographic and geodetic companies.
At present, due to the transition of the system of higher education of the Kyrgyz Republic to global standards, the training is conducted by ECTS credit technology, based on the activation of self-study. Faculty of the department is preparing teaching materials for more than 30 disciplines.

The Department dates back to the founding of the Department "Engineering Geodesy" based civil engineering faculty Frunze political institution (FPI) in 1961. The first head of the department was associate professor Kabelnikov Vladimir. Professor Vladimir Zenin became head of the department in 1968. From 1984 to 1999 the department was leaded by associate professor Orynbaev Bolot Orynbaevich. An associate professor Zenin Oleg was elected as a head of the department from 1999 to 2002.
Recent history of department begins from July 2006 under the new name "Geodesy and Geoinformatics". Head of Department became associate professor Dr. Akylbek Chymyrov. Creation of the new department was made possible by the International Project "Education in Surveying and Geoinformatics", realized in KSUCTA within the European Commission TEMPUS project in 2005-2007.

Department "Geodesy and Geoinformatics" invites all interested parties to cooperate. The teaching staff of the department has a high educational and scientific potential, most scientists of department received their education or improved their skills at leading universities in Europe and Asia, have international master and doctoral degrees, English language skills and work experience in international projects.
Currently there are "Austria-Central Asia Centre for Geo-Information Science" and "The Kyrgyz Center of geographic information systems" functioning at the department. These centers increase the research capacity of the department and support successful cooperation with foreign partners.
